3rd Take was a project that brought together those who are in search for their significant other through productions and exhibitions of their video profiles.

I gathered participants by asking friends either by words of mouth or by email.  Once I found participants, I asked them to introduce me to three of their friends.  Some lived in NY and others lived far away.  Most of the interviewes were conducted by Skype phone and recorded by the audio recording software.  I also asked the participants to choose up to three tasks from my list of actions, and recorded them performing them.  A participant’s performance with his friends’ interviews became a final video profile.

I also held a series of public meetings at the gallery where these video profiles were exhibited.  Participants came to these meetings and socialized with other participants.  For those who had not made their video profiles prior to coming to the gallery could also make their video profile at the gallery.

Most video profiles that I saw on the Internet dating site were made with subjects telling who they are and what they like in front of the camera.  I felt that this technique alienates those who are too shy to exhibit themselves that way.  By having friends’ interview as references, I tried to add a kind of warranty to the video profile.
